My Athens: Uniting a Town While Giving Back

A local Instagram account @my_athens has become a popular hashtag among college students and residents (#my_athens). An entire team works together on this to celebrate the uniqueness and unite this community with beautiful pictures. And these are pictures you look forward to seeing on your feed!

They promote local businesses and events, too. For example, this past week they promoted an event from the Coke Tour Stop called "Share a Coke in the The Bottleworks" where people came out to grab a Coke with their name on it made specifically for them. With 210 comments, and over 20 comments on the first post talking about it, I have no doubt this Instagram account very much helped their promotion.

It is not just an Instagram account however. It has a website showcasing pictures and sells merchandise promoting not a clothing line but the town itself. It also has its own blog and hosts its own events. These previously include My Athens Family and Kids Day and My Athens Gallery Party at the Georgia Theatre.

The best part about this is that proceeds from sales of photos, merchandise, and event tickets, go back into the community benefitting Habitat for Humanity.


Athens, Ga is unique in that people share such a strong bond being from here or going to school here, but it also makes you feel like its uniquely made for you by all the variety it has to offer.
